All kinds of people……..

It takes all kinds of people from all kinds of journeys to make this amazing world we all live in. Some of us have had what most believe to be an idyllic life. Filled with wonderful people and memories. They’ve never had to worry about if they were loved, if they were safe and certainly never had to worry about whether they were good enough. These are the people, that we believe, have somehow been blessed to be surrounded with such a beautiful life. They’ve grown in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Sadly, for far too many, that idyllic wonderful life is only a reality within the realms of the social media, the TV shows, the streaming and the movies we watch. Yet, I have to wonder is any of it even a reality. Is it, truly how some people live or is it just a creation of our imagination. A creation of how we wish things really were. The huge family dinners and holidays, the joy at sharing every detail of our life with our siblings, where the brothers/sisters/cousins all have this amazingly unbreakable bond. You know what I’m talking about.

Yet for so many of us, this is not the case. So many suffer a life filled with criticism, judgment, abuse, mistreatment, never feeling safe or knowing if they will even survive the next day. Being surrounded by a life of negativity and poor treatment from others, takes its toll. It causes doubt and anxieties in oneself and all that surrounds them. Not just today but every day of their lives. This becomes like a dominoes effect or a chain reaction. Because this is how they then raise their own children. Not by choice, they just do not know any better. They do not know how to do things differently. They, believe that they are not worthy of a better life. Why wouldn’t they think like this??? After all they possibly spent their whole life hearing exactly that. Why then would they suddenly think any differently???

Unfortunately the misconception is, that most believe that this does not happen in “Good Families”. Yet it is also quite common for children raised in a healthy stable family home will also suffer with these same issues. Mental Health is a massive problem and it happens anywhere, anytime. I have a son that was diagnosed with depression from the age of 5. There was nothing that we could do to change his mindset. He had convinced himself that he was no good, that he did not belong in our family. Yet he was loved equally and raised the same as his 3 brothers. So what happened??? I wish I knew.

Regardless of what you believe, you have to acknowledge that there are too many people that are doing it tough. It is so easy to make a judgment call on somebody that passes you in the street, someone, that just does not fit our sense of normal. It seems it is too easy too have a laugh at someone else’s expense. If someone is fatter, skinnier, dirtier, crankier, eccentric, have bad teeth or no teeth, look really old for their age, or even if they are old or just different.

I ask you think before judging, criticizing and making derogatory remarks and funny looks. Each person on this earth has a story. Some stories are lovely to hear and relate to, but most are not. Perhaps if we all took the time to hear the stories of those around us, then we could truly understand why things are the way they are. Just like the old saying about walking in the shoes of another. Sometimes it is not easy to see the struggles of others. Sometimes it’s because they hide it so well. But, mostly it’s because it’s easier to not see it, therefore not have to deal with it either.

A naughty child that misbehaves at school…..he has a story….connect with him and build a trusting bond, over time you will learn his story. Only then will you see that he is not trying to be rude, disrespectful or nasty, he just wants someone to be there for him and to hear him. Same can be said for the teenage drug addict, the underage drunk, the reclusive young girl, the homeless man, the rude old lady/man, the insolent son/daughter/grandchild.

It has become far too easy to be unkind to others. The world is a mess and this is partially due to the lack of empathy and a lack of understanding, that we humans show towards each other. If you can find any joy in your life then please focus on it and share your joy around. Remember that a smile is contagious, give one out for free and you are more than likely to get one back. Same goes for compliments and praise. A smile and a simple greeting or a nice word can change a persons outlook on life.

Words have the power to create and to destroy. Words are the most powerful tool we possess, How do you and how will you use your words?

Who is that looking at me???

Don’t you just hate it when you look in the mirror and see what appears to be an old person looking back at you. I mean who is this person anyway?? I know it cannot possibly be me, no way am I that old yet!! I feel young at heart and full of hope for a great life, so how could this be me? Right??

Well unfortunately, it is me. I don’t know where or when all that aging happened. Okay probably not overnight, but somehow it just seems of snuck up on me and has shocked me to my core. Where did my youthful skin go. Now when I look at that image, I see all the lines from all of the days passed, all those years of laughing, the struggles, the heartbreak and of course the many good times. There are lines for every tear I shed, every son I birthed, every moment of grief I felt. It seems that every single moment has left its mark on me, mainly on my face. Yet to be honest I have other parts that are sagging where they previously used to bounce, now they just sway in the wind.

How can it be that this has happened, yet I do not feel old at all? Yes, I know, it’s how you feel not how you look. For the most part I truly believe in that statement. That is, until I see that old lady in the mirror again:(

So you can imagine how pleased I was when I stumbled across research stating that Comfrey can help prevent the aging effects on the skin. Unfortunately it also told me that if I had been doing this from a young age I also could have prevented the wrinkles in the first place. Seriously!! Why am I only learning about this now???This is one of those times where I was wishing I could go back in time and change the way I had done things.

But, it’s not too late to prevent further damage. Applying Comfrey cream now will still work wonders for my aging skin. It will help make my skin softer (hopefully that does not mean a more exaggerated sag), more supple and elastic.

HOW IT WORKS: Keratin, is a tough, inflexible protein found in the outer layer of the skin. Using Comfrey creams help to soften the keratin, and the allantoin allows the skin to hold onto water better. This makes your skin moister, softer, and better hydrated. This also allows for the outer layer of skin to shed more easily which in turn creates smoother skin with improved moisture retention. End result: Healthier supple skin.

It’s a win, win situation. So I created my own Comfrey Cream to trial. After all what better trial subject than my own crinkly skin 🙂 I’ll keep you all posted on how it goes and how it does or does not change my skin.

In the meantime though, I figure, there really is not much reason for me to visit that horrible mirror and I will continue to live as I feel – YOUNG AT HEART

Giving thanks to Mother Nature

Spending my day yesterday, in the garden had me thinking. This is always a possibility after being surrounded by nature. I took in all of the beauty that surrounded me. The life around me was abundant and simply beautiful.

The bees were frantically buzzing as they went about the day’s work. They are always such a pleasure to watch. The butterflies hovered in the air spreading their beauty as well. The birds were all chirping and singing their own unique songs.

I began to think about the birds that come to visit us regularly, they are our most constant visitors. We often see galah’s, wild cockatiels and budgies, blue faced honey eaters, pied butcher bird, magpies (no they do not swoop us, though they do try to swoop our dogs), tawny frog mouth owls, one visits with her baby. There is always a constant group of king parrots feeding on our Grevillea Sandra Gordon and then of course there are the iconic kookaburras. Then there is the sulphur crested cockatoos that visit more regularly than I’d like. They are so destructive to all that lay in their path. Though, I am grateful that they do not come all year round. I am so grateful for that!!

Honestly I could just sit and watch and listen to nature all day long. Such inspiration comes from the simple joys in life. Spending time in nature helps us to recharge our batteries, helps us to feel grounded and feel motivated. There is not any other form of medicine or therapy that is as healing as nature.

So this week I give thanks for the nature that surrounds me. I give thanks for the sense of calm and hope and love that I get from Mother Nature & all of her gifts.

What strange times 2021

I sit here typing away as our government announces another lock down due to Covid outbreaks. These are very unusual times that we find ourselves in at the moment. But, here in Queensland, we have been so, so, lucky. Yes we have had to wear masks more than we’d like, and maybe we can’t always visit our loved ones like we used to. Can’t even move about freely like we used to. But, we are safe. As we all try to do the right things in order to keep others safe, and it seems that it is working.

I live in a small country town and my community is everything to me. I see, as I go out and about in my area, that everybody is trying hard to keep themselves and everyone else safe. We’re all checking in on others to make sure they are okay. We are all trying to share some love and kindness around. I feel blessed and privileged to part of this community of Esk. It is not just Queensland that has been lucky.

The whole of Australia has been lucky. We have not seen the umimaginable horror that Covid has caused in other countries across the globe. Yes, we have some of our own heartbreaking stories to tell. But, thankfully not on the same scale of other countries.

I give thanks every single day for the people of Australia doing what they can to keep everyone safe. I hope with all my might that we will all see an end to this pandemic soon. Yet somehow I feel like this is something that will be with us for a long time to come.

If we can all continue to do whatever it takes to keep our family, friends, communites and ourselves safe, then that is the best we can do right now. Continue to feel hopeful and share your hope with others. Mental health is a real issue. One that we all need to be aware of. Look after your body & mind and try to be aware of the struggles of those around you.

how do i live a happy life?

I often wonder why some people are happy with a simple life yet others find negatives in everyday. I find this such a sad way to live. Because, a lot of those negative things that upset us, are usually out of our control. We could not change them no matter how hard we tried.

I personally am a happy person. I find joy in the simplest things, I like to believe that there is good in everyone I meet and in everywhere I go. Yes I know, some may think that I am not living in reality!! But, it’s my choice is to live this way and, have a positive outlook on life.

Yes I know there is also plenty of bad in this world but, I believe that we can choose whether or not we let the negatives become our focus or the positives. I choose the positives :). I live a happy, peaceful, stress free (for the most part) life. I love being surrounded by like minded people. In my little community, I have met some of the most wonderful, kind hearted, generous people. I feel this, though they have not done anything exceptional for me to feel like this. They are just simply really friendly people that brighten my day. I show gratitude everyday for the blessings in my life. For instance, i think we have been given the most loveliest neighbours. It brightens my day to see Michelle & Grant and have a chat at the fence.

My attitude towards life in general, goes a long way to making sure that I enjoy my life. The change in the way I saw life all began with a Gratitude Journal many, many years ago.

Starting a Gratitude Journal is a great way of changing they way you look at life. This is really easy and a cheap way to see what you truly have in your life. To begin find a book to record your notes and thoughts. Write down the things that you are grateful for. This can be a simple note pad or a fancy decorative journal. Then begin by writing in it daily, preferably before bed each night. Jot down all of the things that happened in your day that you are grateful for.

These things can be as simple as….”The new neighbour said hi to me today”, The girl at the grocery store was really friendly and cheered me up today”, “I saw my Granddaughter today”, “My son did not get angry with me today”.

Or it may be more the surroundings that you found yourself in, that you’re grateful for, such as….the jacaranda tree is beautiful in flower, the sun felt wonderful and warm on my face, the birds singing in my garden made me smile. You will find that as the days progress it becomes easier to find those wonderful things that you are grateful for.

It has also been said, the first thought of the day, when you wake up is a guide to how your day will be. So try waking up and immediately telling yourself,

  • “Today is going to be great.”
  • “I am going to have a wonderful day.”
  • “Today I will find joy in little things.”

When you change the way you see the world, it can bring endless benefits and happiness to each and every day. It allows you to open your heart and your mind to the beauty that surrounds us each and every day. It allows us to let in the sun, the rainbows and most of all the happiness.

So go now and be happy, then infect your happiness, your love and your joy for life, with everyone that crosses your path.

If only one person who reads this, decides to give this a go, then my work is done. For it only takes one to try, then share with one other and suddenly our world begins to become that wonderful place we want it to be.

Just Breathe…

Did you realize the by just breathing we can improve our general well being????

Now this is not our normal everyday breathing, that I’m talking about here. I talking about BIG, DEEP BREATHS. Those big deep breaths that reach right down to the bottom of our lungs. The deep inhale and deep exhale. This is so easy to do on a daily basis. But, why should we?? What are the benefits???

  • Get more oxygen in – this helps to heal the body
  • Balances blood pressure
  • Helps to quieten and calm the mind
  • Adds oxygen to the brain
  • Balances hormones as it lowers our cortisol levels, which also increases the endorphin rush
  • Helps to increase blood flow to the face and neck, nourishes the skin, giving it colour & vibrancy
  • Helps to reduce inflammation
  • Helps to reduce stress and anxiety

When we take a big deep breath in, our heart rate quickens very slightly. As we then exhale, our heart rate slows, this allows the heart to take in more oxygen and signals the brain to wind down. Repeating the process of these deep breaths, naturally brings your heart rate more in sync with your breath. This causes the brain to release endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals that have a natural calming effect.

So, now that we know all of this, what’s stopping us????? Find the time, relax, chill and B-R-E-A-T-H-E

Have a awesome amazing week, and remember to look for the miracles and surprises….they’re out there waiting to be found.

the power of our words

So today I got a message from Gary, a new customer to let me know that he got his order in time and that he was very happy with the Comfrey Ointment he had ordered. He is 63, a paramedic and still going strong. Wow!! Good on him. What an inspiration he is.

Anyway, Gary described our Comfrey Ointment as a “Real Panacea”. Now, I have to admit this was a new word for me. I had to Google it, and see what he was on about!! Well coming direct from a very experienced Paramedic I am pleased to share with you the meaning of this mystery word.

“Panacea means…..a solution or remedy for all difficulties or diseases”. What a wonderful way to describe Comfrey.

Now, I realize that it is possible that many of you had already heard of this word, or knew it’s meaning. Perhaps you even use this word in your daily life. Not, me though. I am so pleased to have learnt a new word today. So a huge thank you to Gary from Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. I love words. I love the power they have. The words we use, can shape our lives and ultimately change the direction of our journey. When used right, words can have a positive life changing effect on ourselves and those around us. Unfortunately the opposite can happen when we use our words negatively.

Life really is too short to waste time and energy on making life hard or horrible for others. Take your words and use them wisely. Use your words to send joy and love, to brighten someone’s day, to help somebody feel like you care. Use your words to enlighten and encourage everyone you meet.

Have you ever had one of those days where you just want it to be over. Then you walk into your local store, pick up a few things, then as you go to pay, the person at the register just somehow brings a little sunshine into your day. Suddenly, things are better, your mood has improved and you realize, that all came about from a smile and a few kind words.

Anyone can put others down, make them second guess themselves, put doubts in their head, make another person feel worthless and unloved. It takes an amazing, brilliant and wonderful person to share positivity and light with others, whether they be a stranger in passing or a dear friend.

Try it today, share your words, the ones filled with sunshine and joy. Then come back and share with us how doing so has also made your day even more wonderful than it was previously. Because, brightening someone else’s day is not a one way ticket. I can almost promise that you will also have a heart warming moment too.

with rain, comes hope

So here in beautiful Queensland, we have had some much needed rain. As far as the eye can see there is a beautiful green to the land that hasn’t been seen for some time. The gardens are growing and happy. At least for now they do not need to want for moisture. They can grow and flourish without the stress and struggles.

There is something about this lush green land. It gives a sense of serenity and calm. An inner peace that just seems to soothe the soul. I love my time in the garden on any day, but it’s different when everything is so lush and green. It’s beauty takes my breath away. The butterflies hover, the bees are buzzing, the bird song seems louder and happier. It seems that it is not just me that appreciates the surroundings after a good rain.

Those quiet moments in the garden seem to recharge my energy levels. They bring hope for the future. They make everything seem possible as though our thought process while working in this serene environment suddenly make the world a much brighter amazing space to be in. It is safe to dreams the big dreams.

Today, I give thanks and gratitude for the recent rains, the new abundance of life around me and for my ability to see hope and promise in all that I see.

There’s a bee in my garden, that flies by me,

Buzzing and singing a great melody.

Bringing the sunshine to brighten my day,

Teaching me lessons along the way.

Cool weather aches & pains

Comfrey, a natural solution for those cold weather aches & pains.
Photo by Vlad Cheu021ban on Pexels.com

Here in sunny??? Queensland, we are fortunate to get some much needed rain. With the rain and the change of season, we have a little cool weather hanging around.

So, with the cool weather, for a lot of us, this also means aches & pains. Why is it that we start to hurt and generally feel stiffer all over because the weather cools down????

Low temperatures make the fluid inside our joints thicken, so that’s why we get that stiffness. Our movement and activity is generally a bit decreased on cooler days.As we tend to feel lazier, maybe we just want to curl up on the lounge and binge on Netflix all day. Or is that just in my family??? This of course, then causes our inactive joints to be and feel stiffer. Quite often there will be some pain associated with the stiffness. This is about where we really begin to start feeling our age or older 🙁

So we can focus on moving around more but, sometimes that just isn’t enough. This is where the Comfrey Ointments & Oils really come into their own. Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is well researched and well regarded for its pain relieving and healing properties.

A little massage with either our ointments or oil formulations and you could be back up and about in no time. Moving possibly better than you have in ages.
